The Southern Nevada Soccer Association Spring 2013 Adult League season came to an exciting conclusion with the crowning of four playoff champions in the Coed 8v8 and Coed 5v5 divisions on Sunday, May 19 at Anthem Hills Park.
The Coed 8v8 Best of the Best division finals was a high-scoring affair, as Los Amateurs successfully defended their Fall 2012 championship with a 10-6 victory over Shamrock Rovers. Los Amateurs were led by Blake Damato, who scored three goals. Anthony Lopez added two goals, and Dominique Romero, Rachelle Romero and Trent Jenkins also scored. The Rovers were led by two goals from Tony Robson; Terry Devlin, Dave Leavitt, Esad Morina and John Zielinski added single goals.
The Coed 8v8 Best of the Rest division featured a three team round-robin format. Both Net Rippers and Touro entered the final round-robin game with 10 points, rendering the third match a true championship game. Touro built a 3-0 halftime lead on the strength of goals from Brady Davis and Ashley Christensen. Net Rippers pulled to within 3-2 in the second half with a goal from Ashley Snyder, but a goal from Touro's William Lang made the score 4-2 and put the game away.
In the Coed 5v5 Best of the Best division, Ajax 63 rallied to edge This Team 6-5 for the championship. This Team took a 2-1 lead into halftime on the strength of two goals from Chase Rinehart, with Joe Pickens scoring the Ajax counter. The lead was extended to 4-1 midway through the second half on goals from Dave Rinehart and Chase Rinehart. Ajax 63 cut the lead to 4-2 on a goal by Alex Stransky, which was quickly countered by Wes Whybourne's goal to give This Team a 5-2 lead. An Ajax 63 goal by Michelle Rivera cut the lead to 5-4, and a late PK goal by Rivera gave Ajax the margin of victory.
The Coed 5v5 Best of the Rest division featured the most exciting match of the evening, as FC Keggerators successfully defended their Fall 2012 Best of the Best title with a 4-3 victory over Man Cave United in a game that was decided by penalty kicks. First-half goals by Man Cave's Stephanie Hartman and Jason Diorio were countered by a Keggerators goal from Charity Cress as Man Cave took a 3-2 lead into halftime. The lead held for most of the 2nd half, but a last minute goal by Johnathon Cress sent the game into a penalty-kick shootout for final resolution. FC Keggerators outlasted Man Cave 4-3 in the PK shootout to secure the championship.
